Football managers, scouts and owners across the world will all have been watching the World Cup to unearth a gem. Back in 2002 Salif Diao & El Hadji Diouf were signed by Gerald Houlier after starring for Sengal in the 2002 World Cup. Equally Sir Alex Fergurson identified Czech winger Karel Poborsky and Dutch midfielder Jordi Cruyf during Euro 96. So as the World Cup reaches its climax, putting our scouting hat on we pick 5 players who premier league clubs should be looking to sign for the 2018/19 Premier league season.
Yerry Mina alongside his Colombian teammates may not have covered himself in glory with his antics against England but I don’t think anyone can doubt his quality. Alongside Davidson Sanchez, 6ft 5 Mina was outstanding at both ends of the field against the three lions. What makes this centre back equally impressive is his goal record for a defender. An incredible 3 goals in 4 games during Russia 2018 is an amazing return. What’s more if rumours are true, his current club Barcelona want to sell.
After watching Cavani score twice against Portugal one of the big 6 in the premier league may finally be convinced to sign the PSG forward. He may come at some cost (£70-80million) but based on displays in Russia, he can score, assist, play anywhere across the forward line and put in a shift when his team are defending. With PSG having to sell players this summer to comply with FIFA financial regulations the Uruguayan striker could well be heading to the Premier League.
Mexico were one of the first teams to light up the world cup when they beat Germany 1-0 in their opener group game. The player to score was Hirving Lozano, a pacy winger currently plying his trade for PSV Eindhoven. With electric pace, trickery and superb crossing ability he will no doubt have been looked at by serval teams. After joining PSV in June 2017 he scored an impressive 17 goals in 29 games to help his club lift the title. With Riyad Mahrez rumoured to be close to signing for Man City we feel Lozano would be a perfect replacement.
Germany may have been knocked out in the group stages with many players receiving criticism for an abject defence of the World Cup but one player (perhaps the only) who did impress was Bayern Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt. To many peoples surprise the 22 year old German was chosen in the squad ahead of Manchester City's Leroy Sane, but in a dismal defence of their title he was one positive, It was just a shame that Joachim Low choose to use him for a combined 17 minutes in 3 games. Come on Jurgen Klopp we reckon you need another German to join your Liverpool team!
Ruben Loftus Cheek
As an Englishmen we save the best till last. Loftus Cheek will no doubt be attracting interest from serval clubs after some impressive cameo appearances for England. What has made Loftus Cheek stand out has been his strength and power which has added a perfect balance in an England Midfield containing Jessie Lingard and Raheem Sterling. Although a Chelsea player, it would be no surprise he if he was allowed to sign for another club, even on another loan next season and with a CV that potentially reads world cup winner 2018, he would make an attractive proposition for many premier league clubs.
